Sanur is the original seaside holiday area and to this day it offers excellent facilities, a wonderful beach and surprisingly a tranquil and un-crowded feel. The coastline here is a long stretch from north to south on the east side of the island where reefs create lagoons all the way up the beach. This means that the turquoise water laps gently onto the white sand and is warmer than the usual water. This water is safe for swimming even when the swell is large and there are a variety of activities in and out of the water that are very popular and offered by the hotels. The Sanur hotels are located along a thin strip, which is the main road of Sanur and runs parallel to the beach. This set up has lead to the top Sanur hotels being on the coast with beach access as well as there being many decent hotels of the mid range and the budget range located close to the beach. There are far less super budget places in Sanur although they can be found if you look and ask around, this is due to the demographic being somewhat different to that of the Kuta area with more families and couples rather than young backpackers, surfers and partiers.
The Sanur hotels almost always have a pool and when you take first the beachside hotels you will find that each place has an epic traditional garden that looks out onto the amazing shoreline with a spa and traditional bale resting areas that are perfect for lying down and enjoying the afternoon laziness. Facilities at these places are always top notch and there is always good food in the restaurant as well as there being plenty of places you can find to eat close by if you feel like a little variation. The beach never feels crowded due to the large sizes of all of the resort meaning that the people are spread out along the beach giving the impression that the beach is quiet and secluded.
The other mid range and budget places are usually located either just of the beach or down on one of the roads that branches of the main strip. These places are usually very good and many of them have excelled and offer wonderful services but without the huge areas and open views they have a different feel to the beachside resorts although you will save a significant amount of money and have a pleasant stay in many of these places. Transport and tours are usually offered from the Sanur hotels and complimentary services are also more common such as welcome drinks, afternoon drinks and free airport transfers. Breakfast is usually a buffet that you can help yourself to and you may receive a short complimentary massage. Sanur hotels are perfect from couples and families who wish to find more tranquil relaxing location away from the parties but still with a lively nightlife. Sanur offers this just 35 minutes down the by pass from the airport.
